Great Maze Conquering weather!
Fall Hours: 3-6 Weekdays, Saturday 10-6; Sunday 12-6
Open Columbus Day, and Election Day 10-6

The maze with it's new design celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Blue Ridge parkway opened August 28th. The above picture is a close representation of the design of the maze, but it's not 100% accurate so don't print it off in hopes of following the paths! You'll still have to follow the clues and your noses to get out of this one! All other activities on the grounds will be open except the pig races - (they can't leave their momma quite that soon and we'll have our inaugural race come Sept 18th)
Hey Bluegrass Fans! - WVPT invites you………..
Me & Martha (a.k.a Don DePoy & Martha Hills) will bring their love of Shenandoah Valley music to Hess’ Back Home on the Farm on this Friday, September 10th at 7 p.m. Their program features bluegrass, traditional country and gospel music popular in the Valley. Joining them on-stage will be several younger musicians from the area. The audience will be invited to sing along and participate in a traditional Valley round & square dance demonstration. There will be lots of children's activities including a Shenandoah Valley Instrument Petting Zoo featuring the mountain dulcimer, fiddle, autoharp, mandolin, guitar, banjo, Dobro, and bass fiddle.
Me & Martha are members of Americas Old-Time Country Music Hall of Fame and are on the artist rosters of the Virginia Commission for the Arts and Young Audiences of Virginian as traditional performers. They perform about 150 concerts a year and conduct slow-jam workshops all over the country. Don and Martha are the founders of the Shenandoah Music Trail and promote music making as a way of life. Bring the entire family to hear their educational, entertaining and sometimes funny presentation of an authentic uniquely American music.
This is a fund raising event for WVPT Public Television. Activities on the farm are open except the maze. Ride the carousel, take a cow train ride, conquer the slide, slingshots and more.
Admission to this event only $8.50; under 16 free. (admission price goes to WVPT).

It's our second annual Tractor Cruise-In and punkin chunkin
The fun starts around 9:30 as the parade of tractors leaves Whitesel Bros. and weaves its way to Back Home on the Farm. About mid-afternoon, after a day of being on display, the parade will make its way through Parkview, to Traditions Restaurant for a meal of fellowship and then parade their tractors around VMRC before heading home. If you want to participate with your tractor, call Junior or Roger at Whitesel Bros at 540-434-4457.
Lots of new additions to this annual event - don't miss them! We'll have blacksmiths on hand along with the Fiber Guild - all demonstrating their crafts, hit & miss engines, and much more. And you won't want to miss
SECOND AMENDMENT TOO!

This huge punkin chunkin cannon weighs nearly 30,000 lbs. and is the creation of Ray Tolson from Culpeper, Each year, Ray and his team take this mammoth gun to Delaware to the National Punkin Chunkin Contest. The second amendment of the constitution allows us the right to bear arms and Second Amendment Too can shoot pumpkins (or waterfilled basketball!) nearly a mile. Ray will be doing some target practicing with this gun on Saturday and Sunday. Come on out and he might even let you shoot it! We were recently featured on WVPT's Virginia Farming program, hosted by Jeff Ishee.
